US Hubs

The VOCES8 Foundation is committed to expanding our reach into communities is desperate need of music education support. Beginning in the Fall of 2022, the Foundation launched a new Hubs education model — focusing on intentionally selected schools, repeat visits to build connections, and commitments to multi-year programs of work — in five cities/areas throughout the United States.

You can read about our amazing first year projects, and find out more about our ambitious plans for 2023-24 in the Hubs report linked below!

Selected Highlights from our Hubs

New York/ New Jersey

“As a teacher in their first year and at a school where the choral program is not valued just yet, this project has been hugely valuable to my students and our school community.”
— Middle School Choral Director, New Jersey

February saw the culmination of VOCES8’s 2022/23 residency at the John J Cali School of Music, Montclair State University, New Jersey. Twenty-one school choirs took part in a project which included a school visit by members of the Foundation and culminated in a workshop and concert for over 700 students.

“I’m so happy to have been part of this. Both the education representatives for the in-school workshop and the VOCES8 workshop today were great.”
— High School Choral Director, New Jersey

Plano, Texas

In the Fall of 2022 five high schools from across Plano and Grapevine Texas participated in a project delivered by Paul Smith, VOCES8 and the US VOCES8 Scholars. The project culminated in a concert at St Andrew United Methodist Church in Plano when each school had the opportunity to showcase their choral pieces and perform with VOCES8.

These are comments from students in response to the question “How has participating in this workshop impacted your view of music?”

We are very grateful to long time friend Taylor Davis and the team at St Andrew United Methodist Church for helping with and hosting this project. We are also delighted that former US Scholar Jenna Hernandez-McClean identified schools that would benefit from the project and looked after the logistics for the workshops and concert.

You can hear Jenna, the choirs, current US Scholar Max Macias, and feedback from some of the students* in this video filmed on the concert day.
