Schools and Music Hubs
“The impact we have seen in our classes is an increase in confidence with not only singing but also speaking out loud. For some of our learners we noticed a marked difference in their confidence in using English within the classroom in other subjects after having the opportunity to learn songs and be part of the workshops. The workshops are really well thought out and consider the needs of all our children”
Each year the Foundation works with primary and secondary schools delivering a range of projects. During the 2025-2026 season we are working with schools in the London boroughs of Hackney, Tower Hamlets and Lambeth, schools in Herefordshire, Monmouthshire, Surrey, Kent and York delivering a number of projects all of which will culminate in performances with participating schools and the VOCES8 Foundation Singers.
“The overwhelming impression from staff and children was that it was a wonderful experience and a determination from staff to keep using the rounds in class. The Head and the member of staff with responsibility for music are both determined to get singing into the school’s routine. There was amazement at the skill of the singers, their ability to manage the children and the speed with which the children learnt the songs and then sung them as rounds.”
Our partnerships with Hackney Music Service and Tower Hamlets Arts and Music have enabled us to reach thousands of children across Hackney and Tower Hamlets through workshops in schools and specially designed workshops and concerts at the VOCES8 Centre. Projects with primary school children and their teachers include Sing Every Day, Postcard Adventures with Peanut and Butter, Augelletti’s Aviary and Sing Together.
Sing Together
Sing Together began in 2021 with a pilot project bringing one London primary school class and one elementary school class in Albuquerque New Mexico together through singing. During the 2025-2026 season 5 primary school classes and 5 elementary school classes are participating in this project working with our singing leaders, sharing songs, and exchanging letters and postcards.
Young Leader Programme
One of our most popular secondary school projects is the Young Leader Programme. Students from secondary schools work with our singing leaders learning how to lead a workshop for primary school children. The young leaders then visit their local primary schools together with our singers where they lead workshops for the primary school children. Our 2025-2026 Young Leader Programme sees us working with students in London, Surrey and Herefordshire.
“I had the confidence to stand in front of people I don’t know and teach a warm-up. I can also communicate with the people I am leading and tell them what to do.”
