Robert Frenzel-Berra

Robert Frenzel-Berra has spent his career conducting research and developing programs for youth and disadvantaged populations, including after school programs, homeless youth services, employment and training programs, literacy programs, and immigrant services.  For the past 30 years, he has held various positions with the City of New York to advance this work.  In the course of that work, he has been privileged to gain an intimate knowledge of New York City’s diverse communities, their resources, needs, and resilience.  Outside of New York City, he has conducted policy research on the apprenticeship system in Germany as a visiting scholar at the Federal Institute for Vocational Training and ethnographic research on rural poverty in the Missouri Ozarks.  Robert holds a Ph.D. in anthropology from Columbia University and an M.P.A. in public policy from New York University.

Robert is a passionate believer in the transformative powers of music and its ability to touch deeply the many facets of the human mind and spirit.  Recently retired, he enjoys gardening, sampling world cuisines, reading, and writing.  He continues to search for ways to enrich the lives of New York City residents and enthusiastically supports the educational work of the Voces8 Foundation
