2 x ASSISTANT PASTORAL CARERS

for our Milton Abbey Summer School & Festival

Dorset, UK 27 July* - 1 August 2026

The VOCES8 International Summer School and Festival seek to appoint two Assistant Pastoral Carers to support the pastoral care and supervision of young people participating in the summer school. The pastoral carers will work under the guidance of Ann Wright (Director of Education), Neil Valentine (Young Musicians’ Course Director), and the course matrons.

This role is ideal for early-career professionals or for individuals looking to gain further experience in pastoral care and supporting young musicians. A daily stipend, accommodation, and meals will be provided, and reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed by the Foundation.

Experience and Skills

Essential:

  • Experience working with children and young people

Desirable:

  • Experience of working with children and young people in a residential setting

  • First Aid qualification

  • Ensemble music making experience

Duties Include:

  • Supporting the course leaders, the Director of Education and the matron with pastoral care

  • Awareness of safeguarding responsibilities and reporting any concerns to the matron and Director of Education

  • Boarding house duties, including supervising bedtimes and staff presence during periods of free time

  • Helping to manage break times, including organising activities during free time

  • Accompanying children to workshops, rehearsals and meals

  • Accompanying children to evening concerts

  • Helping to set up for rehearsals and performances, and to clear up afterwards

  • General assistance to the Foundation's Festival

Person Specification:

  • Prepared to work as part of a team

  • Warm and approachable

  • Good communicator

  • Able to listen to and support young people

  • Able to work on their own initiative

  • Passion for choral music

*required Sunday 26 July to help set up for the course
