VOCES8 International Summer School and Festival

Thank you to everyone who came to Milton Abbey in July and made it such a memorable week!

Next year’s Summer School and Festival will take place from 31 July-5 August 2023, and the concert programme for the week will be announced in Spring 2023.


Join us for another week of superb music-making in the beautiful surroundings of Milton Abbey.

The VOCES8 Foundation presents vocal and orchestral programmes throughout the week in association with world-class visiting artists. The VOCES8 Summer School runs alongside the Festival, and this year the participants will prepare Mozart’s Great Mass in C Minor to perform at the end of the week.

Below is the program for the 2022 festival…


Monday 25 July 2022, 7.30pm: Compline sung by VOCES8, Apollo5 and the VOCES8 Scholars

This service is the opening performance of the VOCES8 International Festival week at Milton Abbey, Dorset, UK.

The music for compline will include:

Byrd - Memento homo

Tallis/Roth - Te lucis ante terminum

Sheppard - In manus tuas (1st setting)

Weelkes - Nunc Dimittis from the Short Service

Byrd - O Salutaris Hostia


Tuesday 26 July 2022, 7.00pm: VOCES8

This concert will be VOCES8’s Bass Jonny’s last UK concert with VOCES8. In person tickets are available on the below and online tickets are available to watch the concert on demand from 27th August.

The programme will feature VOCES8's favourite a cappella works from the classical, folk and jazz repertoires, and will be announced from the stage by the members of the group.


Wednesday 27 July 2022, 7.00pm: Apollo5

Apollo5 performs the midweek concert at the VOCES8 International Festival 2022 at Milton Abbey.

The programme will include the group's favourite classical, jazz and folk a cappella repertoire, and will be announced by the singers from the stage.


Thursday 28 July 2022, 2.30pm: Chamber Group Performance

During the Summer School week, the participants are split into Chamber Groups to rehearse and perform. The Chamber Groups will present a madrigal, part song, pop and jazz a cappella programme. 

The concert also features a special end-of-year performance from the 2021-22 VOCES8 Scholars, who have worked together since September of last year.

Luke Bond, the Festival Organist, will give the world premiere performance of 'Nebulae' by former VOCES8 US Scholar, Matthew Shorten.


Thursday 28 July 2022, 5.30pm: Choral Evensong

The Summer School members, with VOCES8 and the VOCES8 Scholars, sing the Anglican service of Choral Evensong in the Abbey.

Thursday 28 July 2022, 7.30pm: Andy Dickens and his Band


Andy Dickens appears at the Festival for the seventh time; his blend of expert musicianship and dry wit has become a huge favourite for regular Festival attendees. Come and listen, laugh and – if you feel like it – dance!

Andy will announce his set from the stage.


Friday 29 July 2022, 7.00pm: VOCES8 and the VOCES8 Scholars

VOCES8 and the VOCES8 Scholars, accompanied by organist Luke Bond, perform the Friday concert at the VOCES8 International Festival at Milton Abbey.

Saturday 30 July 2022, 4.00pm: Gala Concert

The members of the Festival chorus, together with VOCES8 and the VOCES8 Scholars and accompanied by the Academy of Ancient Music and organist Luke Bond, perform works including:

Hebrides Overture - Felix Mendelssohn

Great Mass in C minor - W.A. Mozart

Antiphon (from Five Mystical Songs) - Ralph Vaughan Williams

Ave Verum Corpus - W.A. Mozart
