VOCES8 are joined by students from Harrisonburg, Virginia, and the City of London Academies

VOCES8 first met the Eastern Mennonite High School Touring Choir in Harrisonburg, Virginia in 2010. Since then they have visited them annually, and in June 2018 EMHS made their first visit to London. They now return to the UK as part of their summer tour and will spend the day working with VOCES8 alongside students from City of London Academies, sharing music and friendship.

Join us for an evening performance at the VOCES8 Centre when all three groups will present their own music, as well as pieces they have worked on collectively during the day.

The Eastern Mennonite High School Touring Choir, from Harrisonburg, Virginia, is an auditioned ensemble of approximately forty students in 11th and 12th grades. The choir’s program includes repertoire from the classical and contemporary sacred literature as well as songs from a wide variety of other traditions and styles. Choir members seek to sing in a way that transcends mere performance, with a spiritual connection to God, the music, each other, and the audience. The choir is founded on the belief that choral artistic excellence and worship strengthen and reinforce each other. Eastern Mennonite School was founded over a century ago with vocal music in worship as one of its foundational values, and we are glad for the gift of this musical heritage.

The Touring Choir sings between twenty and thirty local concerts and church programs each spring (March- May) in addition to an annual out-of-state tour. The choir also tours Europe during the summer of alternating years -- recent trips have included programs in England, Scotland, The Netherlands, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
